About

I've spent my career learning how to build software, solve difficult problems, and keep moving into unfamiliar territory.

I'm a software engineer based in London, UK, with experience spanning product engineering, consulting, contracting, and running engineering businesses since 2010.

Background

My route into engineering wasn't particularly conventional.

I started out trying to get into web development, took an unpaid role to get experience, and gradually worked my way through agency work, software engineering, contracting, consulting, and entrepreneurship.

How I think about engineering

Good engineering is more than getting software to work.

I care about understanding the problem properly, making good trade-offs, building systems that can survive contact with reality, and communicating technical decisions clearly.

Now

I'm increasingly focused on applied AI.

I'm particularly interested in evaluation, retrieval, agents, and the engineering discipline required to turn impressive demos into useful, measurable, reliable systems.

Outside work

I try not to make software my entire personality.

Motorcycles, travel, family, and learning things simply because they're interesting all occupy a healthy amount of space too.
